Ryan Mahelona MD
Principal Investigator and Sub-Investigator, Psychiatrist
Dr. Ryan Mahelona is a board-certified psychiatrist and psychotherapist with fellowship training in integrative and psychedelic psychiatry. He completed his psychiatry residency in Phoenix, Arizona, followed by an Integrative Psychiatry fellowship at the Hines VA in Chicago. As a member of ERG’s Woodland Research Northwest site, Dr. Mahelona works with his team and participants to find safer and more effective treatments for depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and substance use disorders. Furthermore, Dr. Mahelona uses his expertise in psychedelic psychiatry to contribute to this burgeoning field of scientific research with the hope that he will contribute to the discovery of novel and safe treatments for people suffering from difficult-to-treat depression and anxiety.
Beyond his career as an investigator with ERG, Dr. Mahelona also invests his time providing integrative and psychedelic-based psychiatric care to his community in Northwest Arkansas, studying yoga therapy with Circle Yoga Shala, and working towards his purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu with Fayetteville Jiu-jitsu.
